Creativity Chain

chain, originally uploaded by e14studio.

What do you think of my "creativity chain" from New Mexico? The idea was to create a mixed media piece using "sheer heaven" paper, 300# arches watercolor paper, wire, beads, etc. to create a variety of meaningful personal talismans. Once you do one, you can't stop! It's difficult to tell by the photo but the blue rectangular component is called a "word spinner". It has four sides and is hung with a fishing gadget that lets it spin. The idea is to write words on there for your personal intentions and hang it where you can see it often.

More to share very soon.......

Creativity Links

You gotta check out Jessica's website. She facilitated the Creativity Retreat and it was "mah-ve-lous". We played with samples of "Sheer Heaven" papers and stamped using the lettersets that work really really well. For inspiration, Jessica publishes a free online magazine that is chock full of ideas.

Here is something every art journaler will absolutely have to have! It's The Perfect Portable Painting Palette. Think of having all your colors with you without the clunkiness of toting all your crayons and pots of paint! The credit goes to Jessica; Thanks, Jessica!!

On top of Rose Mountain

newmexico, originally uploaded by e14studio.

I just love New Mexico. The "chef" and I are headed there this week. I'm leaving behind big city responsibilities and taking all personal emotional baggage so I can let it all go and bury it in the mountains. I'll be stocking up on a year's supply of fresh sage sticks and creative inspiration. When I come back I'll be a year older. I'm glad I'm facing another birthday in my "happy place" because nowadays birthdays come way too often.

Collage Piece (detail)

I mixed a journal page written on black paper with gel pens and a collage of tissure paper and photocopies. I cut the pages into strips and wove them together.

Vision Quest artwork

vqcross, originally uploaded by e14studio.

I am posting this image because I will soon be traveling to my all time favorite place in the USA, New Mexico. I made this drawing on a previous visit while I was on a "vision quest". Every time I look at this picture I am reminded of the experience and what I learned about myself while I was alone on a mountain top.

niech spoczywa w spokoju

I called my Mom and she gave me the polish translation for "Let him rest in peace". I was raised a Catholic and all my grandparents were born in Poland.

With all this coverage of mourning for the Pope, I got to thinking about how I have strayed from the Catholic rituals but not from faith. I still have my fundamental beliefs but have sought and found answers from various religious and spiritual practices. I just want to share the advise I received from a priest who I hold dear in my heart. His name is Father Carl and when I told him about my wanderings he said, "Truth is truth."

Re-occuring Image

original, originally uploaded by e14studio.

A long time ago, I drew a drawing that showed a source of light (energy) casting down rays onto a surface or plane. And within that plane, there was the shape of the human figure cut out so that the rays of light could form a beam to the earth. There was the same exact shape of the human formed by the light where the beam of light hit the earth . OK, so there you have it in descriptive words. Over time, I have drawn and re-drawn that composition over and over and over again. I have used various media and I have even given some of these drawings away. Truth be told, I can't stop drawing them. I think they explain the notion of the human condition but what the bleep do I know!
