Butterfly Magnets

workinprogress, originally uploaded by e14studio.

Here's what I've got going on in the studio right now. I'm making butterfly magnets for holiday give aways. I got the idea at the Quilt Show. I'd like to give credit to whoever made the one that I used as a prototype but I lost the business card.
I coat index stock with colorful tissue paper using gel medium. Once that's dry, I rubberstamp the butterfly image and put gold or silver on the back and edge. I match up two butterflies and fold one in half. In between the two butterflies, I insert a wire thingy for the antenna using diamond glaze. To keep the two butterflies together I use a toothpick to hold it in place while its drying. Next, I glue a bead or something in the middle and attach a magnet on the back.
There you have it, a magnet to stick on your fridge or filing cabinet to hold all those reminders and notes.

Stay tuned for instructions on how to fold paper into small boxes; perfect for these butterflies. I use Christmas catalog pages. They make colorful gift boxes.
