This gives you an idea how much there is to see in Venice. Our tour guide recommended that we wander around trying to get lost. (It's impossible because we're on an island.) When you navigate the maze of tiny streets, you can cut yourself loose from the tourists and meet up with the some of the residents of Venice who are out shopping for groceries or walking their dogs.
