I took a class with Lesley Riley and learned how to work with fabrics and cover a child's board book. Usually I work with paper when I collage but this has opened up a whole new bag of tricks for me to try. (full of material!)

Creating my space

It's been over a year since I moved out of the termite infested studio on East 14th Street. I loved that little place. I could just go there and make art all day long. And when I was finished, I didn't have to worry about putting things away. I could leave paints and glue and papers out so that they were there waiting for me the next time I came back.

Everything got packed up into plastic bins and drawers and boxes and bags and loaded into the garage. And it has stayed that way for over a year. I'd pull some stuff out and work on a table in my house but there really wasn't enough space and everytime I thought of something I needed, I had to figure out were it was and looking for it became a chore that interupted my creative flow.

Needless to say, a few projects were sqeezed out under these restricted conditions. All along I've been re-arranging my house and trying to find a corner to occupy that didn't take over the entire space. Finally I came up with a plan and saved the money to execute it!!!!

In my garage, I designed a workspace that I can use to do the messy stuff I like to do; gluing, painting, inking, etc. I drew a sketch of how I wanted shelves to be built and an electrical outlet to be added. Then, on the opposite side of that wall in a room off my kitchen, I drew up a layout for cabinets and bookcase so I can store all my art supplies and books nearby.

The next step was to find someone to build my spaces and that wasn't to difficult because I looked in a neighborhood newspaper and found an ad for a "honey-do" carpenter.

So it's almost done and I'll be busy arranging my art supplies.

I'm one of those people who likes to create but has to have the space around me clear of clutter and ready for my artisitic activity. And then, I like to leave it out and walk away from it because I usually let things "bake" for hours, days, weeeks and sometimes months!!

I'm always interested when other artists put their studio links up because I like to see where they work. I hope to have pictures of this soon to show you. And then after that, there'll be artwork as well because I will be set to go!!!

(all I have to do is figure out how pictures show up on this blogspot....)

Introductions

Since I visit blogs and enjoy them, I thought it was about time to give it a go. The voice inside my head is loudly proclaiming that I have enough stuff to do and when will I find time to make it interesting? Nothing worse than a dull blog, right? Well, for now I am telling the voice to be quiet and let me blog and see what happens.

I plan to share my artwork on this blog. Now let me go find something to show you.
